Track: Otology and Neurotology

Otology and Neurotology are subspecialties within Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), focusing on disorders of the ear, with an emphasis on hearing, balance, and nerve function. While Otology primarily addresses conditions related to the outer and middle ear, Neurotology deals with more complex issues involving the inner ear and the brain’s auditory and balance systems.
Hearing Loss
Otology often deals with various types of hearing loss, including conductive (caused by outer or middle ear problems) and sensorineural (caused by inner ear or nerve damage).Treatment can include hearing aids, cochlear implants, or surgery depending on the type of hearing loss.
Tinnitus
This condition involves the perception of ringing or buzzing in the ears, often caused by hearing loss, ear infections, or inner ear damage. It can be managed with sound therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, or medications.
Meniere's Disease
A chronic condition that affects the inner ear, causing episodes of vertigo (dizziness), hearing loss, tinnitus, and a feeling of fullness in the ear. Treatment includes medications, diet changes, and in some cases, surgery.
Vestibular Disorders
These affect balance and can include conditions like Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), Vestibular Neuritis, and Labyrinthitis. Diagnosis often involves balance tests, and treatment includes vestibular rehabilitation therapy or medications to manage symptoms.
Acoustic Neuroma
A benign tumor that grows on the vestibulocochlear nerve (responsible for hearing and balance). It can lead to hearing loss, tinnitus, and balance problems. Treatment typically involves surgery or radiation therapy
