Craniofacial Surgery and Spinal Disorders

Craniofacial Surgery:
Craniofacial surgery involves the treatment of deformities in the skull and face, often due to congenital conditions, trauma, or tumors. Key procedures include cranioplasty, a reconstruction of the skull, and Le Fort osteotomy, used to correct facial skeletal deformities. It also addresses conditions like craniosynostosis, where the skull bones fuse prematurely, impairing brain development.

Spinal Stenosis:
Spinal stenosis is the narrowing of the spinal canal, often causing pressure on the spinal cord or nerves. Symptoms include pain, numbness, and weakness, particularly in the legs. Laminectomy is a common surgical procedure to remove part of the vertebra and relieve pressure on nerves.

Herniated Discs:
A herniated disc occurs when the disc between vertebrae slips out of place, pressing on nearby nerves. Discectomy is often performed to remove the herniated portion of the disc and alleviate symptoms like pain or numbness.

Spinal Tumors:
Tumors, either benign or malignant, may grow on the spine, causing neurological impairment. Surgical removal of these tumors, often combined with radiation or chemotherapy, is essential for patient recovery.

Traumatic Spinal Injuries:
Trauma to the spine, often resulting from accidents, can cause fractures and instability. Spinal fusion is a common procedure to stabilize the spine after injury, reducing pain and preventing further damage.
